The Parts of GLINN

GLINN is an acronym for Gay/Lesbian International News Network. Eventually over the years, our BBS was called the GLINN BBS, the formal name being, The GLINN Multi-Board Super System. It consists of five BBS's. See The GLINN BBS page for more detailed information. Access is FREE. Orginally the BBS (founded in 1988) was called the CSP BBS, named after our typesetting and photostat business. For six years we did production work on Wisconsin's gay publications and the publications of gay/lesbian non-profit organizations. Ultimately the cost of laser printers dropped to the point where phototypesetting didn't pay anymore and we exited the typesetting business.

The BBS is owned and operated by a gay male, so that is the orientation of the BBS. We have always collected the best gay male images from around the nation and around the world. Many GIGAbytes fill our hard drives. We thought that now with the advent of the WWW, we'd share them with the rest of the gay world outside of Milwaukee. Though, we do have many users from around the country who have discovered our fine offerings of male erotica, connecting via the Internet is certainly much less expensive than making long distance telephone calls. In addition, I discovered that many of the biggest Internet sites with gay images are operated by straight people, as are many of the 900 lines, and other things that suck money out of our community. With GLINN, you help keep it within our community and working for our community.

You'll also notice that all those image sites with gay images that charge you are faceless. They don't give you any clue about who really owns or runs the site. They hide behind a hollow domain name.

GLINN Voice Mail Logo In 1990, we founded the GLINN Community Voice Mail System which contained community information, gay news, a calendar of events and free male to male person ads. We also use the voice mail system for BBS User Help and it will also accept orders for things on this WWW site 24 hours a day. The personal ads are all local right now, but they are free as is the call if you are local to Milwaukee. It is at 414-289-8780.

After setting up the news service and BBS we decided that it should all be within a formal corporation, thus GLINN Media Corporation was born in 1992. In addition to the BBS, news service, and now this WWW site, GLINN also has begun distributing gay male books on floppy disk and through computer bulletin board systems.

My name is Dan Frederick Schramm. I am the founder and president of GLINN, and the SysOp of the BBS and this WWW site. If you would like to meet me, click on Who Are We here or above.

Lots of Fun Stuff Too!

In addition to the business reasons for this site, we also want to provide useful information, such as the Gay BBS list and the Gay Media Database. We aren't stopping there. We are also going to do lots of fun stuff. We have lots of ideas and you'll be surprised and delighted on a regular basis if you keep coming back.

The first fun thing we are doing is the Gay Button Archive.

Gay Pride Buttons and HIV prevention buttons are part of the gay/lesbian experience. They are relics and artifacts of our lives. They are political and often they are artistic. They each tell a story. Like so many things in life, they are soon forgotten.

As part of our contribution to the gay/lesbian community and this great experience of living life as a gay man or gay woman is the Gay Button Archive. The buttons we are starting off with I personally collected. They include buttons from the March on Washington and Stonewall. There are lots of local buttons. Many of them were made and created by Jay Hanson, a dear friend of mine who died of AIDS in August 1994. The Archive is dedicated to him.

Hopefully, the buttons will give future artists, activists, writers, poets and others food for thought. We invite our readers to submit additional buttons for our collection. You can submit images or the actual buttons, in which case they will be returned. See the button page for more information.
