- Metracrawler
This para-site describes itself as "A fielded Web service that represents the next level up in the information 'food chain.'" It curently accesses six services": Galaxy, InfoSeek, Lycos, OpenText, Web Crawler and Yahoo. Duplicate hits are listed only once.
- Savvy Search
A para-site that provides one-stop searching of 19 different search engines! Maintained at Colorado State University, this experimental system allows you to specify the amount of information in the results; brief, normal or verbose.
- Internet Sleuth This is a kind of one-stop shop for Web searching.
- LinkMonster A compelling collection of Web site links,, organized by topic and quality. You can also search this index.
- All4 One
The name of this para-site says it all. The search results from Alta Vista, Lycos, Yahoo, and Web Crawler are displayed in four frames on the same screen. You have have Netscape Navigator 2.0 to access this site.
- Alta Vista
This powerful search engine was brought on-line in December 1995 by Digital Equipment Corporation. It claims to be the largest Web index with "30 million pages found in 225,000 servers and 3 million articles from 17,000 Usenet news groups."
- HotBot - The Wired Search Engine
- Excite
Excite's NetSearch searches the Web by concept rather than keyword. Its calssification system is based on statistical analysis of the actual documents found and assumes that words that frequently occur together are related. It contains 11.5 million Web pages and two weeks of Usenet news articles and classified ads.
- Galaxy
Galaxy is both a directory and a search engine. It has easy instructions and provides detailed summaries, including a listing of frequent words and how often they appear.
- InfoSeek
InfoSeek Guide maintains it is the "fastest Web index." The new Ultraseek is scheduled to be available in June; it will have the capability to handle up to 1,000 queries per second and is intended "to have the largest and first virtually realtime index of the Internet."
- Yahoo!
This directory has one of the two highest toal audiences among search engines, according to PC-Meter. Using a classification system similar to the Library of Congress, there are over 20,000 different categories for more than 200,000 Web sites.
- Lycos
At this site, yo ucan also access Point and A2Z. Lycos searches the entire Internet. Point offers reviews and ratings of the top 5 percent of all Internet sites, and A2Z offers a categorized directory of the Net's most often hyperlinked sites.
- WebCrawler
This search engine is one of two search engines with the highest total audience, according to PC-Meter. Now part of America Online, the database contains more than one million documents. Provides a title listing or a listing of summary information.

- Webring Subject-based collection of sites; covers computers, business, the Internet, education and much more.
- ZenSearch Specializes in "quality sites" which translates into criteria for rating Web site content.
